Myopia Control

What is Myopia?

Myopia or nearsightedness occurs when the eye becomes elongated or too curved. Common symptoms include blurred distance vision, squinting and headaches. It is commonly diagnosed in childhood and can progress into adulthood.

Myopia development is linked to both genetic and environmental factors. There is currently a Myopia epidemic which is resulting in more of the world’s population developing myopia. It is estimated by the year 2050, 50% of the world’s population will be myopic.

With higher levels of myopia there is an increased risk of vision loss. Early detection and management is key to preventing rapid progression of myopia.

At Beaumont Eye Clinic we can offer options to help reduce your child’s myopia progression. Call us to book in your child’s myopia control consult.
